Thieme is a dynamic and driven professional whose expertise in project leadership is matched only by his passion for learning and adapting. In this testimonial, we explore his journey as an on-site consultant and project leader in the field of solar panel installations. From managing a variety of projects to embracing new challenges in different sectors, Thieme shares how his role at Verhaert On-site Consulting keeps him inspired, engaged, and always on the move. Let’s take a closer look at his exciting and ever-evolving career.
What do you enjoy most about being an on-site consultant?
“Being an on-site consultant offers me greater freedom and the opportunity to switch projects and sectors when I’m ready for a new challenge. The variety of projects I can join ensures that I am constantly exposed to new experiences, which pushes me out of my comfort zone and makes me continually learn and grow. This dynamic approach keeps the job exciting and fulfilling.”
Last year you joined the MR Solar team. Can you tell us about your role and responsibilities as project leader?
“Yes, I’m a project leader specializing in solar panel installations on industrial buildings, managing solar panel batteries, car chargers, and other related projects. My job encompasses everything from the initial follow-up after a sale to the project’s completion. I coordinate with clients and suppliers, study the area where the project will take place (e.g. surface, measures, possible connections, etc.), design plans, ensure all technical aspects are addressed, and keep everyone informed about the project’s status.”
“Essentially, I handle everything post-sale to ensure a smooth and successful implementation. When times are busy and the project risks getting slowed down, I jump in and take over more technical and practical aspects of the project and connect installations myself.”
That sounds quite comprehensive. What do you find most enjoyable about your job?
“The best part is the mix of tasks and responsibilities. One day, I’m on the road visiting sites and meeting clients, and the next day, I’m at my desk designing. This variety ensures that no two days are the same and keeps the job fresh and interesting. Currently, I have around 40 projects running simultaneously, from small installations to large-scale projects like hospitals and greenhouses, so there’s never a dull moment. Flexibility and planning are key, but it’s rewarding to have the freedom to manage my time and projects.”
How do you manage such a high number of projects simultaneously?
“It’s all about planning and prioritizing. At the start of each week, I set out a plan, but I stay flexible as things can change daily. It’s crucial to stay adaptable and ensure that none of the projects fall through the cracks. My senior project leader always says: “Choose what you want to do but make it happen”. It’s important to have effective time management and responsibility.”
What key skills have you developed in your role?
“Planning, prioritizing, and multitasking are critical skills I’ve honed. Managing 30 to 40 projects at a time requires a keen eye for detail and the ability to adapt quickly. I’ve also gained technical expertise in PV installations and car charging stations. Each project presents unique challenges, so it’s essential to continually refine my approach. Additionally, we have a great team dynamic. My senior project leader oversees eight project leaders, including myself, and we frequently exchange information, input, and expertise, and we support each other when any of us has more knowledge about a specific assignment.”
What motivates you to go to work each day?
“The variety of projects is what excites me every morning. There’s always something new to tackle, and I never know what the day will bring. I’m an active and proactive person, I can’t sit still and that unpredictability keeps me motivated and eager to get started.”
In your opinion, what sets Verhaert On-site Consulting apart from other consulting companies?
“At Verhaert Consulting they’re invested in their consultants’ long-term growth. This commitment to our development and the flexibility to move between projects and sectors keeps things exciting and ensures we’re always learning. It’s a dynamic environment that offers both professional growth and personal satisfaction. This approach boosts our confidence by pushing us out of our comfort zone and keeps us engaged and motivated.”
