Vasile Munteanu is a problem solver at heart, with years of experience across diverse industries and a proven track record of delivering practical, innovative solutions. His expertise in mechanical design, combined with his hands-on approach and passion for continuous learning, makes him a valuable asset to any team looking for results-driven engineering solutions. In this testimonial, Vasile shares how his dedication to solving challenges and his ability to adapt across environments and projects make him a standout mechanical design engineer.
What inspired your passion for mechanical design?
“My passion for mechanical design began in childhood. I was always curious about how things worked, often opening up my toys to explore the mechanisms inside. While reassembling them didn’t always restore their motion, that curiosity sparked a drive to understand and fix things. It was the start of my lifelong passion for solving mechanical challenges.”
What motivates you most in your work?
“Problem-solving is at the core of my motivation. I enjoy stepping back, analyzing where things went wrong, and determining how to prevent similar issues in the future. It feels like solving a puzzle: every challenge expands my knowledge and sharpens my expertise. That satisfaction pushes me even harder to deliver solutions. At my most recent assignment, my colleagues jokingly called me Inspector Gadget because of my persistent drive to figure things out.”
How do you approach the challenges of working on-site?
“Working on-site is always an exciting experience, even when it presents challenges. It’s not just about learning the new location and integrating with the team, it’s also about adapting to different methods and standards. This dynamic environment helps me acquire and apply new skills to deliver results. I see every assignment as a new opportunity to learn and grow.”
What skills have you recently developed through your projects?
“I gained hands-on experience with 3D printing, SAP, and Windchill in my last project. Beyond technical skills, I also improved my people skills. The tasks often involved close collaboration, communication, and problem-solving with colleagues across teams, which was invaluable for fostering productive teamwork.”
What aspects of your most recent project did you enjoy the most?
“The diversity of the tasks was particularly rewarding. From 3D design and prototyping to taking part in design review meetings and then actively testing solutions in production it was a hands-on experience where no two days were the same. I especially had the privilege of working with knowledgeable colleagues, which allowed me to learn and grow even further.”
What makes mechanical design such an exciting field for you?
“Finding solutions. Whether I’m creating something new or improving existing designs, there’s always a thrill in seeing the direct impact of a well-executed solution. Understanding the cause-and-effect relationship of specific components and processes keeps the work engaging and fulfilling.”
Can you tell us about a project that stands out as a career highlight?
“The New Generation Citea project (NGC), a new electric bus design, with VDL Bus & Coach, stands out as the most exciting. I contributed at every stage of development, from 3D designing and detailing to prototyping, mounting, and testing solutions in production. I also tested new supplier replacement parts, such as reverse cameras and molded components, and addressed build issues by identifying problems on the production line, collaborating with colleagues, and testing practical solutions. This project allowed me to combine my design expertise, hands-on testing, and problem-solving skills: everything I love about mechanical design.”
What key insights and value did you bring to your team at your last assignment?
“Over time, I learned that a good design is about more than technical accuracy. It needs to balance comprehensive 3D modeling, cost efficiency, and user-friendliness to deliver the best possible outcome. Taking these factors into account ensures a product is viable from both a production and user perspective.
I brought added value by leveraging experience from previous assignments in fields such as mining and agriculture. Additionally, I helped increase the team’s knowledge of PTC Creo, improving workflows and design efficiency.”
